Thats right. Most people will start to suffer damage to their GABAergic system within 2 weeks and some unfortunate people can suffer long term damage after only 1 dose although this is rare. Alcohol take much longer as the ethanol ring is on the outside of the post synaptic nerve. But an overdose of alcohol can kill whereas one would have to take an awful large amount of benzos to die suddenly. However if anyone out there is afraid that they should stop taking benzos DO NOT stop suddenly. They MUST be tapered very slowly depending on how long one is on them for, but this does not insure a smmoth withdrawal but will prevent seizures.
