Remember I mentioned the Bush-Cheney signs up, and now gone, from my neighborhood? The entire length of the community, all B-C signs were up on Thursday, and gone entirely as of Sunday afternoon.... It is against the law to destroy the signs, or take them down....

So: This morning, doing my civic duty, I called:

a) The local police department: checked to see if they had any reports of the missing signs. There were no reports, except one house had a sign up, and that one was taken.
I left my name and number with a request to be notified if there was information.

b) The local City Hall: Again, no reports. She suggested maybe the Repubs might have taken them. We BOTH laughed, she knew that was a silly thing to say. They are too hard to get up in the first place, let alone take them down in 2-3 days.
Again, left name and number, and a voice mail message for one of the department heads.

c) The local community newspaper, which has a noon deadline: Told her the problem, and my concern. This is America, and this should not be happening here. We talked about fear, and fear of having the signs....

She wanted any of us who are concerned about this locally (and I added nationally) to write letters to the editors of our papers of our concern.

d) The State Bush Cheney organization in Bellevue: Again, told her the story....She said she HAD had MANY calls about this ...in ALL communities in the State!!!!! We talked about the expense and time it takes to get the signs...we talked of damage to property...

I suggested to her that the Bush-Cheney folks consider a sign that talks about the missing signs....and for the ad to state that those who DON'T have a sign in their yard are FOR Bush Cheney!!!!! The ad could reinforce that thought!

Also told her I'd be in tomorrow to volunteer help ....

I said that it sounds to me like it may be an organized campaign, and possibly from the Kerry folks.

But I foiled them. I now have my Bush/Cheney sign hovering 20 feet above the sidewalk. When the afternoon sun hits it, it looks like it is illuminated. Everyone who walks by looks up and smiles. And I am surrounded by Democrats.

PS: One side of my elevated sign is anchored to my upstairs bathroom by guy wires. In between the sign and the bathroom is a couple of cowbells. So if the Dems disturb my sign, I can hear them at work and use my BB gun.

I adopted this strategy only after four of my yard signs disappeared into the night of those Demo theives.
