This is a total failure when applied to Car insurance. Same thing would happen here. How do you get an illegal alien to get it and keep it?

Yes, the underlying problem is that medicine is getting better and more expensive. In the 'good old days', if you had stomach cancer, you'd be given morphine and told to settle your affairs. That doesn't cost much. Modern treatments cost more.

So costs would rise even if the system were efficient, and we had some plan in place how and when to ration care - does it make sense to do that heart operation on an 85 year old? But it isn't, and we don't.
