Petz,

Well, there is this:
theinquirer.net

which contains something about a demo (???) of 8 physical core processor with Socket 940 compatibility (hard to believe, depends of what they mean by "demo").

It also contains something about Microsoft using Opteron servers internally.

So my guess is that it will be either one of those 2 (multi-core, or some big chunk of Microsoft standardising on Opteron), or something that ties the 2, like a licensing deal on 2 core CPUs (not being more than HT licensing).

Any other ideas? If it was something really big, it would probably leak by now, so I am expecting only a modest announcment.

Frankly, Microsoft standardising on Opteron servers, enterprise-wide would be a blow-out announcement, IMO, also, something along the lines of MSFT+IBM+AMD = XBox 2 would be a blowout announcement.

Joe

Edit: Sorry, I hadn't gotten to the "Eureka!" posts yet. ;)
