Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Medicaid come out of FICA? I believe at least Medicare does.

Which is probably why FICA doesn't top out like Social Security does.

I already posted about what a "lovely" experience it is to have a windfall year and pay 1.5% FICA and 1.5% FUTA on it. You work for three or four years on a big case, with nothing coming in, then pay humongous taxes when you finally do make something. Back in the days of income averaging this wasn't so galling.

At any rate, my point is, somebody pays for it.
