tonto is a smart guy, but he is being obstinate. Kerry has made several solid proposals to reduce the deficit, whereas Bush has said "make tax cuts permanent", i.e. more of the same.

73% of economists polled by The Economists identified the budget deficit as a crisis or "near crisis". About the same number identified the Bush tax cuts as either "bad" or "very bad" policy.

Kerry's proposal, to rollback the Bush tax cuts on the upper tax brackets, is sound policy.
