The unintended conseqences are doctors leaving the field in droves

I had dinner tonight with a friend who is an anithesieologist. He said their liability insurance went up 75% this year. It is in the Millions for their group.

But, he pointed out that that is not the major cost, it is the unnecessary things they do to avoid any chance of liability. Unneeded tests, treatments, etc. that the insurance company makes them do. Doctors no longer use stethroscopoes, they take pictures to prove what they already know. You don't dare prescribe a simple antibiotic for a respitory ailment without multiple X-rays and MRI's. That is where the big cost in medical care has gone up thanks to Edwards and his ilk.
