The brilliance she showed as Secretary of State continues to shine through, In a campaign season of glib one-liners, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright on Monday joined with an attack on President Bush using a bumper sticker phrase as ubiquitous as "Let´s not elect him in 2004 either." "It´s a very simple issue. Bill Clinton lied, but nobody died," Albright said when asked, during a rally for Democratic candidate John Kerry, about her support for Clinton during his impeachment. Albright, who served as secretary of state for eight years under Clinton and has been an informal adviser to John Kerry, went on to criticize the Bush administration´s efforts to build a coalition before the war in Iraq, its "bring it on" bravado and its work with other nations." Some people ask me what I´m doing, and I say flat out that I´m trying to overthrow the government," said Albright, who also spoke Monday in Bangor. "Clinton lied, nobody died?" Poor deluded MADeleine. How quickly she forgets the first attack on the World Trade Center, the Khobar Towers attack, the USS Cole, the Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the ignominious retreat from Somalia after the killings of our Rangers, and so on and on. How quickly she forgets the "unauthorized" war by Clinton in the former Yugoslavia during which we bombed Christian Serbs, who possessed no WMDs and posed no threat imminent or otherwise to the USA, on behalf of Muslim Bosnians -- some of whom paid us back by joining al Qaeda. How quickly she forgets Castro's shoot-down of the "Brothers to the Rescue" plane in which American citizens died. (Would Castro dare do that with Bush in the White House?) "Nobody died," huh? To give her the benefit of the doubt, we guess she meant that none of our enemies died, because a lot of Americans sure did. "I'm trying to overthrow the government." Does she think this is clever? Is this what she'll put on her car's bumper? MADeleine never had a clue as to what was happening in the world. Our enemies were planning and plotting and gathering strength, and she went to clink champagne glasses with the North Korean dictator and give him food and support in exchange for a promise not to build nukes. As we have seen, he broke his promise from the moment he made it. But MADeleine was happy; she got her time on CNN. The State Department was falling apart, Embassies were drawing down, our intel capabilities were being flushed away, but MADeleine and her entourage traveled the world in regal splendor, visiting distant capitals on the taxpayers' dime on the most spurious of reasons just so MADeleine and her friends could shop. To think we once worked for this person . .
