Yes, displaying the "V" device is very significant. However, it is only displayed on the Commendation Medal and Bronze Star medals. The reason being is that either of these two medals can be given for achievement or valor. The "V" therefore is very special.... the general public is unaware of this..... Remember the one high ranking officer who ended his military career by suicide when his medals were questioned? Messing around with the military awards program is not allowed to go unnoticed.......
