Yep, I think the last truly optimistic time in the US was the late 60's and early 70's. Afterwards we became greedy, paranoid, lazy and (apparently now) really fat. I wonder if these characteristics are even more related than obesity and the consumption of too much bread and pasta.

IMO, Bush is the culmination (one hopes) of decades of callousness and deification of wealth above all else. We now have 100 billonaires but more people shoved into poverty.

The Bush administration is like taking the Picture of Dorian Gray out of storage....what looked glittery and beautiful on the outside has really deteriorated into something quite ugly on the inside.
