Ed,

After a deliberate program of disinformation by the Democrats, and a Time poll, should anyone be surprised to find that:

"In a TIME poll taken before the second debate, 42% of those surveyed said they believe that if Bush is re-elected he will reinstitute the draft, while only 21% believe Kerry would."

The point is, is this "the Republicans have a secret plan to reinstitute the draft" a real issue or a canard? It is, clearly a Democrat canard. We can run hypothetical issues out to the horizon, introduced by ifs, but they are meaningless. This is a bogus issue, not because we can never have a draft again, but because it is an election time scare tactic. I like the idea that we always have the option to have a draft, don't you? Would you prefer a constitutional amendment against one?

And, if a draft is reinstituted, by Congress, in 2006, what would be wrong with that? We might also legislate some sort of constitutional regulation of gun ownership, or legislate gay marriage. I'm all for self-rule.

This is a democracy, we elect legislators who legislate. We are SUPPOSED to govern ourselves.
