We're not talking about walking away from the military while legally obligated to serve. That can't be done.

No, I wasn't talking about that either. I was talking about renegging on one's plans for another tour.

To make a commitment to serve for a term of years, knowing that Kerry has voted against US military funding over and over again, that he believes the war in Iraq is the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that he wants the international community to decide how to deploy the US military in future.

I don't know why so many posters feel obliged to make points to me about serving under Kerry. I have never questioned any of that. All I questioned was labeling as patriotic those who would opt out because Kerry is CIC. I don't fault your kids one bit. But I wouldn't label their decisions patriotic.

I'm surprised I haven't yet gotten a PM from LB telling me how "bored" he is...

Thanks CB. This is exactly what I've said, or certainly intended. Perhaps not clear enough for kholt. We're not talking about walking away from the military while legally obligated to serve. That can't be done.

We're talking about voluntarily enlisting to serve in the future. To make a commitment to serve for a term of years, knowing that Kerry has voted against US military funding over and over again, that he believes the war in Iraq is the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that he wants the international community to decide how to deploy the US military in future.

I doubt seriously many, if any, of our present Military will walk away from their current obligation, even if Kerry is elected. The question is just how many will enlist for the first time, or re-enlist if Kerry is CIC, for all the reasons that have been discussed. TWT.
