Yes, it's true. I "see" some flags, too. I just don't "know" anyone who displays one. It is considered kitschy except perhaps on the Fourth of July or Memorial Day. That is a stylistic/cultural thing, not an indicator of love of country. Most people I know in 3D pick up litter or prepare meals in food kitchens or teach ESL. It would never occur to them to wave a flag.
