The coalition of Pharmaceutical companies and doctors is so lucrative that decency in Government COMPELS a fairly honest health portfolio. There is so much psychological influence ensuing from wining and dining in Puerto Rico and the like...that Government MUST be wary of authorizing any drug in particular before the fact.

The pharmaceutical influence has lowered both cholesterol and blood pressure safety zones, thus increasing their profits by billions per year. Dealing with modern medine is like panning for gold...you throw out most of the pannings and you keep a few bits and pieces...with due skepticism.

Actually, Gloop, Ephedra has been off US store shelves since April of this year.
fda.gov

It appears that Health Canada RECOMMENDED that ephedra be pulled in 2002, but it was not mandatory and apparently had little effect.
cbc.ca

From what I can gather from google, it appears that Health Canada acted in lockstep with the FDA in forcing removal. The two agencies apparently often work together closely.

Slowly, the Bear turns from thoughts of roses, rises on his hind legs, and sniffs the air. What's that? Dead badger?
Boy, dem Greeks be tuff. Spartans,Trojans, all the same. The Bear turns to leave his mark on the tree, giving thought to fighting that wolverine for the dead badger. The Bear can only hope that Trojans kill baby bears, too.
