kholt,

Once again, you force me to think along lines of more discomfort than I am wont to pursue. <g>

I agree with you that patriotism is about country and foundations. The notion of limiting service due to feelings about a CIC is disturbing. Yet I also see the reality that many who now serve would be likely to end their service at the first available opportunity if Kerry were to win the election.

Personalizing the situation: Would I follow that trend? And why?

My answer is that I truly desire to serve my country in a way that leads to its betterment. If the POTUS was a person whose decisions would bring harm either in perception or reality to the country that I love, I would want to separate myself to the greatest extent possible from any chance of being directed by that person into actions that caused such harm.

My belief is that Kerry would make decisions and give direction to the military that would be counterproductive to the long-term welfare of the United States. His history demonstrates a consistent pattern of choice that, in my opinion, is the antithesis of trustworthy leadership. And I would have trouble defending (and conceivably dying for) that which I don't trust. Rather than be a rebellious soldier, and thereby possibly cause harm to my comrades, I would choose instead to leave the ranks of the military.

I'm not going to engage you in an endless debate that will
eventually find you, like Kerry, one every possible side of
the issue. Nor will I try to keep up with you as you move the
goal posts as each previous rebuttal is thoroughly taken
apart with facts, logic & reason. And I'm not going to let
your personal digs or your elitist, dismissive attitude draw
me into the debate or respond in kind.

I'll stick to replying to the occasional outrageous remark,
thoroughly discredit it & leave it at that.

Please feel free to continue to respond with your revisionist
history, 'er nuance, circular reasoning & moving goal posts,
confident that you, like Kerry, have always been consistent
on each issue & that your version of reality won the day.
