Okay, I think I understand what you're saying, and I think I have a little better understanding of your position.

I do think that the war we are fighting isn't a peripheral or optional war, but if Kerry were to become CIC, that is how I believe he would approach it. After all, it is to him "the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time." (Or maybe he doesn't think that... it's hard to know for sure). Given his worldview, I think that there is an awfully good chance of him putting the troops into untenable situations, where there truly would be loss of life in a vain cause. This is a war, and it must be fought so as to win. The CIC sets the agenda for that, and must have the willpower and perseverance to overcome a great deal of nay-saying and second guessing on the home front. That strength of character isn't evident in Kerry, thus, if he were to become President, I would question the value to the country of trying to stay the course in military service.
