"I can imagine gay people, faced with a Consitutional amendment banning them from marrying, giving each other high-fives when Kerry brought that up."

I am pretty sure that is where the confusion lies. The word 'ban' is inappropriate in this context. The message that people are not getting is that the term 'marriage' means a commitment between people who by their heterosexual nature are capable of procreating in a heterosexual manner, barring any anomalies that would keep them from procreating.

The mainstream seems to get that even though we waste a lot of time and resources trying to justify it. A lesbian relationship does not qualify, as much as lesbians wish it did. I am sorry they feel excluded but it isn't because they are banned from the marriage club, it is because their lifestyle doesn't qualify. Pretty simple really. They demand to be the labeled the 'same' but they are undeniably 'different'. What happened to viva la differance.
