Well, if all you meant was that at the end of the war one party would have been defeated, why not just say, "at the end of the war one party will have lost?

I think your position has migrated to one that you can defend. I think that's a good thing because the first one was filled with hubris. Ed

You seem to miss the point: <But what if we occupy another country and, at the point of a gun, attempt to force its people to conform to our view of how they should live? CAN WE make them live the way we want? Can we make them like it? Can we make them stop resisting us? Can we move among them without fearing deadly retaliation?
