Elizabeth Edwards should be proud. She has just taken the saccharine Southern insult to new heights. I was raised in the South where the nastiest comments are decorated with "darlins" and "bless your hearts". It might come across as sweet and caring to a naive Northerner, but any Southerner recognizes immediately that what Eliz Edwards said was REALLLLLY bottom of the barrel nasty. "She overreacted" means "That bitch better not mess with me" "...treating it as if it's shameful to have this discussion" means "We don't care about your family's privacy,we'll do whatever it takes to win a vote." "It makes me really sad" translates to "I am so pissed off at that Cheney slut." As for shame- obviously darlin' Eliz knows little about the meaning of the word, being completely shameless, bless her heart.
