Edwards' 16 year old son, Wade, died in a car accident in 1996. After his death the couple had fertility treatments to have more children. In addition to Cate, the one who is now 22, they have Emma (1999) and Jack (2001).

They aren't hiding anything. They lost a son, the greatest tragedy that can happen to parents.
But CJ, if they had a serial killer brother in prison, a transvestite father in the wings, or a prostitute daughter, and Bush or Cheney brought it up, it would be just as terrible, just as offensive.

This is a non-partisan rant on my part. Tacky is as tacky does. I hope Bush and Cheney can stay above it.
