Abram means exalted father and Abraham means father of many nations. His generations must continue forever or else there could not be an eternal covenant with Abraham or even with Christ for that matter.

The important thing to me is that the promise that God gave to Abraham and the covenant that God made with him is in the infancy of the magnitude of the covenant.

If you consider the number of people that have ever lived and compare that with the number of people that are alive today well over 90 % of all the people that have ever lived are alive today. Truly the prize and the booty of war is set before us in the terms of human souls set toward heaven or hell.

There is no way that Abrahams descendants can currently be numbered with the stars if you take the promise literally. The greatest prize is set before us.

What ever God's purpose is whether that be to populate the heavens with interstellar travel or to use earth as an incubator for populating the cosmos I wouldn't even venture to say. However no withholding his own son from us should be extrapolated into something very big in store for us. Or, to those that will heed his call and obey His voice..

There are many instances of name changes in the bible. Jacob to Israel the most notable along with Abram. It signifies the rebirth of a person when they have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. Paul says we are a new creation. a rebirth . A new name should follow for every believer. Yes I believe in Christ that God gives every believer a new name. Sometimes I wonder what mine is ?
