Watch where they go, ignore what they say re. polls. Ignoring mandatory trips for debates and the AARP convention and looking at discretionary campaign appearances only:

Over the last 10 days, Kerry/Edwards have spent more time in Iowa than any other state. Mew Mexico and Florida are tied for second. These three states seem to account for about half their time.

For Bush/Cheney, the most appearances were in Pennsylvania. Iowa and Florida were tied for second.

Bush won Florida narrowly in 2000. The other states mentioned were all Gore states. So the battle seems to be waged mostly in states Gore won.

Conclusion: Kerry on defense, Bush on offense.
