in the 1970's and 1980's the term Gaea was popular. It originated from the Greek earth mother goddess. Several tomes werre published espousing that Gaeaism celebrated the earth. Earth was an organism complete with all life forms. Do you think this is related?

The Founding Fathers of America were Deists, very unlike the so-called Christians of today whose Christ seems so "alien" to other Christians.

That may be. I apolologize for not having the time to research yyour contention to its satisfactory conclusion. As far as Christians diagreeing what it means, that has been going on for millenia. The Roman and Greek church separted early on.
