Yes.

Kerry's inactive reserve obligation ended in 1972.

In fact his entire six year obligation ended in 1972 as he had enlisted in the US Navy Reserves in 1966.
He should have been eligible for an honorable discharge in 1972.

We know he hated the service and hated Nam duty.
So why did he stay in until 1978?
