And that's been part of my foreign policy. In Afghanistan, I believe that the freedom there is a gift from the Almighty. And I can't tell you how encouraged I am to see freedom on the march.

I don't want to go there (crusade) just yet.

But I will say, holding Afghanistan up as a stunning success is a bit rich.

For one, any president would have gone in there and kicked al-Qaeda butt, big time. Making it a big campaign issue is rather like taking credit for the sun coming up every morning.

Better presidents would have kept the focus on Afghanistan and Pakistan border region, rather than distracting themselves with Iraq.
