Actually Mary's name first came up WHEN Mr. Cheney was asked what he thought about the Amendment to the Constitution that Mr. Bush is proposing against gay marriage

Not so. Ms. Cheney's sexuality was first discussed during the 2000 election.

You seemed to have missed the point of my post. Both edwards and kerry used her name while responding to a question which did not require them to identify a single soul. They chose to "tag" her sexuality during two debates - knowing there would be a large audience of voters watching the event. It was done by design and illustrates an "anything goes attitude" by the DNC and these two candidates. Even at the expense of using someone's name when responding to a debate question of some controversy. The debate question did not require the debater to, "Name a gay person who you know feels that they were born as a gay".

Unfortunately, "Anything goes" is an attitude which is pervasive among certain politicians. We just happened to witness two of them during these debates.
