I won't argue what you knew about Mary Cheney but the Cheney parents and Mary have long made no secret about her sexual preference. And btw, when Alan Keyes specifically attacked Mary for her "selfish hedonism" during his laughable Illinois Senate campaign the Cheney parents said nothing to defend their daughter against a genuine public slur against their daughter.

That's your interpretation but many others disagree. It is much more important to guarantee equal treatment for all people under the Constitution than to putz around with a cultural tradition. The Constitution needs to be secular, equal, fair and just as often as is humanly possible. Have contractual unions between adults as part of the legal framework of the US and have marriages be cultural and religious. End of story. End of stupid argument about things that don't matter except to the nosy. Oh yeah, it also used to be the cultural norm to not allow women to vote, to allow the arranged marriage of children, to own slaves and have to indentured servants. If someone wants to DEFEND MARRIAGE, then find a way to stop people from getting a divorce especially when they have children to raise.
