The commentator missed the most likely possibility, imo: Seymour Hersh was being had. Again. We all know how gullible he is, how many stories he's written up that turned out not to be on the level. So who better to give an unsubstantiated atrocity story to, if you are an anti-war activist, say? Isn't that just the sort of story Hersh would like to report? All you have to do is sound plausible when you tell him, no, no, you can't give him any hard evidence, it's far too risky. He'll run with it. Heck, he's probably spreading it around meetings because his editors all told him no way were they going to print it without some decent corroboration.

A Brigadeer General in the Marines, so of coarse I cant give yu his name because then he wood be persecuted. I know it was him as we went to school together and I culd recognize his voice even if it was kind of distorted and scratchy sounding which proved he wus in Iraq when he called. He told me he killed 25 Iraqis all by himself just because Rumsfeld told him to.
