they may become mugwumps yet.....................The first political mugwumps were Republicans in the presidential race of 1884 who chose to support Democratic candidate Grover Cleveland rather than their own party's nominee. Their independence prompted one 1930s humorist to define a mugwump as "a bird who sits with its mug on one side of the fence and its wump on the other."

Why have Kerry/Edwards flaunted the lesbian rhetoric about Cheney's daughter? Surely it loses Kerry many gay votes when that community observes their ticket callously using one of their own members for ill-conceived political gain. How could it possibly help Kerry to embarrass a gay woman on national TV. By doing so, the senator lowered the traditional civilized standards for the debates.
