Singapore daily concerned over Japan's plan to beef up military

Friday, October 15, 2004 at 13:12 JST
SINGAPORE — A Singapore newspaper expressed concern Friday over the Japanese government's consideration of a advisory panel's proposal that it acquire a preemptive strike capability, saying that would undermine stability in Asia and dash hopes for economic integration among Asian countries.

The Business Times said in an editorial that Japan's plan to revise its pacifist Constitution and beef up its military strength is worrisome because of testy relations between Japan and neighboring China, Russia and North Korea. (Kyodo News)
