Had Kerry not mentioned that Cheney's daughter was a lesbian Karl Rove would have ordered his press corps to emphasise some other distraction. When people reflect on Bush's record then Bush will lose. Rove has to emphasise anything but Bush. TP

Cheney is not a homophobic bigot. He's for gay marriage which puts him to the left of the four on the tickets. The problem is not Cheney's obvious embracing of homosexuality, it's his hypocrisy in also embracing the RNC's unconstitutional bigotry. Mary Cheney is a middle-aged adult gay activist and not some closeted teenager. The Cheneys embracing of homosexuality is problem the single most decent thing they've ever done in their lives. Lynne Cheney's venom-spitting denounciation of the mention of homosexuality is really a lousy thing to do to their own family. Cheneys: Politics and power before family and decency.
