"Did you hear about the dog in Germany"

Yes I did. It is a border collie I believe (don't tell prolife). That animal is just another example of how humans only differ in degree and not kind from other animals.

Yes, I've heard she's a hottie! <g>

I'll bet the story you read was "Sundiver" by David Brin. One little correction, if humans hadn't of had those two clients they would have been taken as clients themselves by some other race. One of the tensions in the books is that some races feel giving humanity an equal footing was a mistake...

I think you're right. I never got the part that humans would be taken by some other race.......I was pretty young when I read it. I thought the concept of bringing another species to sentience was very cool. In reality, I think we are doing that...involuntarily. I believe all our domesticated animals are smarter than they once were.

On the news recently, they talked about this kennel or dog pound that when the employees would come back to work in the AM, they would find examples of vandalism in the building. This went on for weeks........they had the police out and considered hiring a security guard. They figured it was kids in the neighborhood so they set up a video cameras within the building.

Turns out one of the dogs had mastered getting out of his cell during the nite....somehow he had learned to undo the lock on the exterior part of the door with his paws and snout. Then he would go through the kennel and unlock all the other doors, releasing all the dogs in the kennel. They would play through the nite and then just before the employees came to work in the AM, he would round them back up into their kennels and lock their doors. Then, he would go to his kennel, get in and lock the door behind him. Amazing!!! LOL!

Good series of novels. You'd like Brin's politics. Do a web search on him.

I'll check him out!
