Ed,

You cite a study from the "Center for Justice & Democracy" whose tag line is :

THAT'S WHY AMERICA'S TRIAL LAWYERS ARE OUR LAST LINE OF DEFENSE IN THE FIGHT FOR JUSTICE!

(Just check out the ridiculous little video they have on RealPlayer)

centerjd.org

What a joke.

There is one fact, though, which is so difficult to deal with. The trial lawyers contend that greedy insurance companies are driving up the malpractice insurance premiums, right? If that's so, and doctors are paying (which they are), then it ought to be a profitable business. If that's so, then there ought to be a lot of interest in that business. If that's so, then there ought to be a lot of companies trying to get into that business.

Unfortunately, it ain't so. Nobody is trying the get into the business, providers are leaving, the field is shrinking.
