Much of Texas was (half-)built on a $100/barrel dream in the middle 1980s.
Unadjusted dollars, but the dollar did well at that point in time??
(before the local S&L banking crises, before the rest of US got it, before beggers in every corner, unde the half-built buildings, from the half-built areas)

Daddy Bush did not specify if he used or didn't use inflation correction, but I guess the price was close to $10 at the time of that (desperate) speech GOP speech.

Bless the Kuwaitis and Saudis, in those days.

That was the major point of what daddy Bush tried to say.

PS And now Iraq has potentially 3x the cheap reserves, if just somebody can get their hand on it and some silence to make a proper, modern, thumoer (not explosion) study.

PPS Libya, 6 cents a local gallon, but they have less reserves, although that too is fairly unknown, but almost as promising..

$4/barrel is, I have understood, a fair price in Iraq, and with some investments, it can be lower.

Plus $5-8 for the transportation to USA.

However, $60 is the present market price target, although it was $24-28.

Sorry, best price in Iraq, 40 cents a barrel.

But then one has to truck it away (ref OFF)
(I'm not sure if one also has to provide the barrels, the pipes and some army to guard it all, but not even Nigeria can go as low and well as that)

The rest is a mess, especially all of south america, small stuff, drilling for new stuff is as expensive as in Venezuela (slightly depending on the regime)

But Russia is a remote possibility, if that Khodorovsky guy would have got his private pipeline to Murmansk.

PS ref OFF
