Any guesses? There are only 3 types of discharges, Bad Conduct Discharge, Dishonorable Discharge, and Honorable Discharge. You get the Discharge on your very last day of Active duty and you also get one if you go to Officer Candidate School for example, and you get a discharge from the enlisted ranks in order to accept a commission the day before graduation. Its possible that he had a BCD and had it changed.
