A press release says he soloed in the F-102A in March 1970.

He may have had a close call and was afraid to fly again. Pure speculation. Nobody really knows why. He did fly a documented 300+ hours though.

And George don't ride no horses. His ranching skills mostly involve fake bails of hay on photo opps.
What a guy. The only straight thing he's done are his lines of coke.
