For you 'mericans, the everbank.com offers CD's denominated in foreign currencies at more or less prevailing rates. For New Zealand you can get a one year CD yielding 4.80% for a $10K minimum. By comparison the New Zealand Bank is offering 6.30% for a comparable amount and duration. While the rate is better for the NZ bank, the everbank CD is US government guaranteed, there is nothing witheld and it is rather easy to open your account and get your money back.
