Regarding your comments about declines/corrections in commodities, etc, etc, I can only quote Mark Twain's, "the rumors of my death are premature."

China has already reduced its buying of US debt a great deal:

From Sept. 2002 to Aug. 2003, China bought a net of US$75.1 billion US debt;

From Sept. 2002 to Aug. 2003, China only bought US$34 billion;

The total US debt China now holds is US$ 278.9 billion.
