That's a totally different animal than Saddam Hussein and Robert Mugabe. The first two lack(ed) the support of their country's populations, and their policies have decimated their country's economies.

Ariel Sharon was elected for a fixed term duration, and has to win future elections to stay in power. You may not like his policies, but I wouldn't lump objection with him in the same bag as objection to the other two.

But while on the subject (ha hey!), does anybody understand how to rationalize George Bush's language in the following press conferences? George said that he supports the idea of Israel as a Jewish state when Sharon visited Washington a bit ago. Then he supported the idea of Iraq as a state where all religions are equal when one of the new interim leaders of Iraq visited a few days later.

If Iraq should be described as a state where its citizens are allowed to practice any religion they choose without government interference (as opposed to as a "Muslim state"), shouldn't Israel be described using the same ideal language?

Makes you wonder about George's actual ideals. The sharply different descriptions of two countries (one should be Jewish, the other should be open to all religions) within days of each other helps you to understand the Muslims view that US policy in the region is not fair.
