Actually there are truths in the report you pasted as well as in the one I pasted. There are also exaggerations and misleading statements in both. That's why we need critical reading and thinking skills which are unclouded by long-held and poorly reasoned beliefs. On another subject, I'm surprised that you are disputing the connection between the falling returns in the stock market and the increasing costs of insurance. I think this connection is clearly recognized, even by those who fall on your side of the "crisis" dispute. You say; I don't know a single person, in my entire life, who has been killed in a highway accident. In contrast, I knew several people who died in car wrecks. You're either very lucky, your friends don't get out much or you have a very selective memory. I don't know of any attorneys or doctors who've experienced a big malpractice verdict or who've had their insurance company pay a large settlement, but I know many who are paying huge premiums and are scared spitless that "they'll be next." Most of them buy into that "out of control" lawsuit spin and seem to think that it's the primary basis for their ills. It never happens but there's always a new horror story to scare them into being thankful they can get insurance at any cost. Do you think there's some reason why so much wealth and so many companies are now controlled by insurance companies? It is my recollection that a few years back the estimate was that one out of every ten dollars or so was paid to an insurance company. When you think of professional coverage, auto insurance, health insurance, life insurance, homeowner's insurance, dental insurance, etc. it seems there is a lot of insurance that we spend for every day. Too bad those little insurance guys are getting pushed around so aggressively by those "wealthy trial attorneys." But of course their lobbyists are powerless. Have we exhausted this subject?
