That news is not a surprise. I, like many Catholics, am furious over the Church's meddling in politics. And that nonsense about certain Bishops saying a vote for Kerry is a sin? It makes my blood boil... the Church is so out of tune with Christ's teachings... that... nevermind. This is not the appropriate forum for that type of discussion. Suffice to say the CNN report should not be a surprise.

...indicates that Kerry has the majority of the catholic votes. That is a stunner to me considering abortion and stem cell.

There's a BIG difference between the Catholic Church and Catholics. We're an unruly bunch. <s>

Frances Kissling, president of Catholics for a Free Choice (CFFC). “The majority of Catholics are prochoice. While sixty-one percent support legal abortion and seventy-one percent support embryonic stem cell research, few show the obsession with the issue that is the hallmark of the bishops political platform. Catholics overwhelmingly list their main concerns as resolving the war in Iraq, protecting national security, and improving economic conditions through jobs, Social Security, Medicare, and education.”

Catholics in North America, especially in the USA, seem to me to be a rather "liberal" bunch ----- and so much so that the Pope was obliged to pay a couple visits in the last century to tell the clergy and their flocks to toe the Vatican line.
