Spin terrorism speech against Bush (4.00 / 2)

It seems to me that the Kerry side can do more with Bush's terrorism speech in New Jersey than simply refute Bush's effectiveness in the war on terror, which is what has been done so far, to limited success.

I think this is the perfect opportunity to FINALLY NAIL BUSH FOR EXPLOITING 9/11 AND TERRORISM FOR POLITICAL PURPOSES.

Of course, Bush has been doing this for three years, and the press just doesen't call him on it, but now is the time. He'd have a hard time denying that he's being exploitative when he gives this speech right before the election. If the Bush side can accuse Kerry of exploitation for simply mentioning Cheney's gay daughter, surely our side can nail Bush for going to New Jersey and exploiting the grief of 9/11 families.

Imagine, for example, if Bush's speech were immediately followed by a press conference with the "Jersey Girls," where they explain their unanimous opinion that Bush has in fact let down the families of 9/11 in every possible way, from repeatedly blocking investigation of 9/11 to incompetence in the war on terror that has made the world less safe and terrorism a greater threat.

There's an opportunity here for a spin assault that could be just as effective for our side as the Wellstone fiasco was for theirs, but the difference is that in this case Bush really is exploiting a tragedy for political purposes, and to prove it requires no distortions or deceptions, just telling the truth.

Of course, we'll have to see what Bush actually says in his speech to know how much of an opportunity we have, but we should be prepared to jump on it as soon as we get the opening.

In addition to Bush's incompetence in the war on terror, if we can finally get the press to start talking about the angle that Bush is EXPLOITING terrorism and the tragedy of 9/11 for political purposes, I think that could be an issue that finally undercuts Bush's inexplicable advantage on terrorism in the polls. The cynical exploitation of the 9/11 tragedy just weeks before the election could be the last straw that brings many undecided voters over to our side.

That's what I think. If any others think I'm onto something here, please take the idea and run with it...>>

Another idea for The Kerry Team (from the DailyKos weblog)...

<<...if the opportunity presents itself

what i'd really like to see is a reponse from kerry in which he says:

"the president has told you about fighting a war on terror. he's told you it will be a long fight. but he hasn't told you how, in the meantime, he will make america whole again.

"i think it's very important that we recognize that the war on terror is not just a battle fought with guns, tanks and bombs. the war on terror is also about finding our way back home to who we are as americans. it's about renewing out commitment to a way of life that embraces american values, that sees us as a people who care for one another, who understand that what makes our rights and freedoms so valuable is the respect for one another that underpins them.

"the war on terror is indeed about security. it's about our ports, our transportation system, our food and water supply. but it's also about our ability to create jobs, to provide adequate health care, to educate our children, to provide for a secure retirement.

"if we lose sight of our core values, we lose sight of why it's worth fighting against terrorists."

of course that's just a framework to be filled in by k/e. but i think it's a message of hope that is lacking in the bush campaign. we can remain fearful or we can reclaim our lives as americans. i'd like to see kerry go for the high road on this...>>

Maybe Soros should launch a hostile takeover of Sinclair <G>...

It looks like Gabelli is NOT pleased with a media firm that is making news like Sinclair...fyi...

“I don't want my media companies that cover the news to be making news,” says Barry Lucas of Gabelli & Co., which owns about 4% of Sinclair
