Varian Semiconductor Announces Stock Buyback
Friday October 22, 4:20 pm ET

GLOUCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 2004--Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. (the "Company") (Nasdaq: VSEA - News) today announced that its Board of Directors authorized the repurchase of up to 3.5 million shares of the Company's common stock on the open market. Gary Dickerson, the Company's chief executive officer, said, "This action reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing shareholder value."
As of October 1, 2004, the Company had approximately 36.4 million shares of common stock outstanding.
