Kerry says he opposed the funding because it included a $1 billion "slush fund" that needed to be trimmed. The ad's claims that Kerry repeatedly opposed weapons vital to winning the war on terror don't mention that Vice President Dick Cheney, when he was defense secretary, opposed some of the same weapons systems. Kerry voted against the Navy F-14D Tomcat fighter and the B-2 bomber. Cheney, as defense secretary, canceled the F-14 and submitted a budget scaling back production of the B-2. thestate.com
