I think Bush is more likely to defend Taiwan against totalitarian attack [from China].

I have been changing my mind about the way to handle the Taiwan/China situation.

If I were Prez, I would have the Taiwanese informed that they needed to do two things to keep us happy.

1) Tone down the "independence" rhetoric.

2) Arm themselves better to defend against an air/sea attack by China.

China knows-from a rational standpoint-that they cannot afford to invade Taiwan. But they might go "wog" on us and try for it if they are aggravated too much by Taiwan. Taiwan needs to keep a low profile politically and and high profile militarily to keep China in line. Taiwan is going to end up totally intregated with China economically. They can stay out politically by fending them off until the leadership changes.

The worst thing we could do is get in a fight with China over Taiwan. The way to stay out of one is to keep Taiwan leashed. Taiwan tends to depend on us too much to keep China at bay.

Time is going to solve the China problem. The more they connect to the rest of the world, the better for the world. Bush came into office with very hostile China policy. That fit right in with the Pentagon, which recast China as our number one enemy when the Soviets went under. Events are changing that situation.

We Liberals need to stick together. Freedom means more than freedom to obey the dictates of whoever is boss of the government at the time and to kowtow to the immoral majority who happen to transiently hold the monopoly of power.

Fancy words...but meaningless fancy words.

Are you the same man who just informed us that liberal handouts have reduced Kiwi families to living off government largesse based on the number of children they have out of wedlock? Did you not just inform us that liberal Kiwi family values suck and drug-crazed parents fighting over child welfare checks should be imprisoned.

A little while ago you told us that liberalness is sucking your people into an abyss of despair where the value of children is measured by the size of their welfare checks. Where parents are ineffective and abusive to the point where they think it is OK for others to abuse their children. And where the future looks hopeless because nobody can figure out how to get things changed.

Now you want to convince us that the real problem is the conservatives whose demands that folks stand on their own two feet are way over the top and the real solution is to increase liberalness.

Maurice your suggestion that "We Liberals need to stick together" is asking for more of the same. If you don't like what you are getting it is time to change what you are doing. Doing even more of the same thing over and over and expecting different results is nuts.

If the liberals in your country are as you described, sticking with them is sticking with losers.

You also said, "Freedom means more than freedom to obey the dictates of whoever is boss of the government at the time."
Do you realize that is 1/2 of the conservative platform?

The other 1/2 is that to enjoy those increased freedoms you must assume responsibility for yourself.

Demanding more freedom while demanding ever larger welfare payments makes for a monumental contradiction. Freedom is an action word. Freedom is attained through action not state welfare. Most Americans understand that.
It is past time for you to quit blasting us and start looking at things that work for us.

No amount of bitching at us will set you free. You gotta do something for yourself before you will ever be truly free. And you must teach that value to your children if you wish for them to live free.
