Rove's big innovation is the distraction. He has brought it to new heights. It really doesn't matter if it is true or false or if Rove is ultimately exposed as the archetect so long as it "sucks the air out of the room" for the critical period of time. In fact blatant lies can get more attention than just a piece of critisism because people feel compelled to respond. Others have distracted before, but Rove innovated the rolling distraction where there is some new absurdity for people to talk about and have on TV as soon as the previous one is getting old. After a while it doesn't take too much smarts to see through them, from the swifties, to Cheney's lesbian family, to Dick Tracy. Some people just get fooled all the time. TP
