Trotsky's argument that the so-called Patriot Act and other repressive legislation will ultimately be used mainly against domestic dissidents rather than Islamic terrorists reflects my own thinking. An escalating war in the Middle East under a Bush 2 regime (and possibly even under a Kerry regime) coupled with forthcoming BIG downward adjustment in living standards for most Americans could lead to an EXPLOSIVE situation in the good old USA quite apart form any efforts of Islamic terrorists.
