I don't like the reluctance to pay out the higher income. Some years ago, it is true, the stock price of what is now PTF rose and fell drastically with energy prices, until management leveled out the dividend. The managers make more money the larger the fund is and the longer it exists, and therefore it is in their interest to accumulate income and make acquisitions.

I'd like to see a Boone Pickens type of person move in and maybe make some leveraged buyouts of the trusts--or acquire them. One management team could easily operate several combined trusts, eliminating a lot of payroll.

Two things come to mind. First is the adverse effect of the rise in the loonie against the greenback. Second is the plan to reduce the payout ratio. The latter is a "me too" response to the success of Peyto, and on the whole to be applauded.
