The fact that some costs are exploding doesn't mean overall inflation is high.

I can easily believe that the official CPI estimate underestimates inflation but I don't think it does so by an enormous amount. But then the eventual effects of say a .5% per year underestimate would be pretty large after awhile do to compounding effects.

But then if inflation is a bit higher then the official estimates suggest my point about gasoline being well below its peek when you adjust for inflation, is even stronger.

I had a much longer response but my browser locked up and I didn't feel like recreating it.
