I've noticed that the vast majority of deaths seem to be Marines.

I don't think that the prolonged occupations of nations is what the Marines are really intended for.

Who the heck are the bad guys? Less than 10% are non-Iraqis based on the military's assessment of who has been captured or killed so far. That means 90% of them are Iraqis and not all are Baathists.

Therefore, these guys are fighting the Iraqis they came to liberate. Unbelievable.
